Dr. Christy Layton / Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Christy Layton grew up in Plant City, FL with her parents Ron & Barbara Layton and her sisters Renee’ & Leisa. Dr. Layton always knew that she wanted to return to open a state of the art veterinary and boarding facility in her home town. After working her way through high school and college as a veterinary technician, she graduated from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Biology, minor in Agribusiness Management and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Since graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Layton initially worked at Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital in Valrico, and she is now finally able to visualize her long term dream of serving the Plant City community as a veterinarian. She opened Timberlane Pet Hospital & Resort in October 2006. She lives in Plant City with her large menagerie of dearly loved pets including the rescue dogs that she shows in Agility competition and the Appaloosa horses that she shows in competition during her time off work. She is currently the President of the Hillsborough Veterinary Medical Society (HCVMS) as well as the Chairman of the Animal Welfare Committee for the Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA). Dr. Layton won the Gold Star award from the FVMA in 2013 for Outstanding Contributions in Veterinary Medicine in Florida.
Chelsea Gorham / Veterinary Technician
Chelsea was born and raised in Seffner, Florida . She has had a deep passion for animals since she was very young. Growing up, she fostered and cared for many animals including orphan squirrels. While in girl scouts she began volunteering at a local veterinary clinic where she volunteered for 4 years. Once she was old enough to work, she began her career as a veterinary technician. She has been a veterinary technician since 2006. She lives with her husband, step-son, son, mother, 3 dogs, 5 cats, and various geckos in the Plant City area.
Patti Leonard / Client Care
Patti was born & raised in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating she worked in the field of banking & for one of the top 10 accounting firms in Center City Philadelphia for several years.
Her love for animals started many years ago when she acquired her first Basset Hound. She has volunteered at several animal shelters & been involved with Rescue Organizations. S he lives with her Husband, Dave and their two Basset Hounds, Stickers & Darla. In her spare time she enjoys cooking & baking for her family & friends.
Billi Floyd / Pet Resort Manager
Billi was raised in Plant City since the age of two. She started her career in the animal field when she moved to Gainesville at the age of 18 to pursue a degree in zoology. During her time in Gainesville, she lived and worked at a local non-profit primate sanctuary which also allowed her to rescue and foster dogs and cats that needed her help. She has always surrounded herself with animals, whether exotics or domesticated, and she can’t imagine it any other way. Billi moved back home to Plant City and started working at a large pet resort in Tampa as a supervisor. She is now working in our pet resort full-time taking care of all of the “kids” that come to stay in the resort and those that come for the day to play in doggy daycare. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at local zoos and spending time with her husband, Mike, and their four dogs.
Toni Wazelle / Groomer
After graduating from high school, Toni moved from Punxsutawney, PA to Plant City. She was fortunate enough to get a job with her mother at a local kennel. She worked there for 6 years until she decided that she wanted to further her education, so she took a two year course in computer networking. After graduating she learned that for her, working with animals was more fulfilling then working with computers. Toni has lived with animals all her life and is currently living with her husband, Don, their son, 2 dogs, 5 cats, and a 55 gallon aquarium full of fish. As you can see her life is rich with animals and she wouldn’t want it any other way.
Barbara Layton / Office Manager
Barbara Layton has been with Timberlane Pet Hospital and Resort since its inception in October of 2006. As Office Manager she handles the accounting and also helps with Client Care. Barbara started out doing programming and system analysist work prior to raising her three girls, Leisa, Renee and Christy. Her oldest daughter, Leisa is in accounting with Southeastern Guide Dogs; Renee is with Manheim Auto Auction as Florida Marketing Manager, and of course we all know Dr. Christy. After moving to Plant City in 1983, from Bradenton, with her husband Ron, dealer/owner of Community Buick and Pontiac, she worked with him. Later went to work as a Realtor for Walden Lake Homes and finally Coldwell Banker as a referral agent. She enjoys riding her Appaloosa horses, has a cat named Boo Boo and showing her dog, Brie in agility and K9 Nose Training. In her spare time she has started photographing and painting animals.
Adrienne Swisher / Practice Manager
Adrienne Swisher relocated from Chicago , IL to Brandon , Fl to further her career in the veterinary field. She has 13 years of experience working in veterinary hospitals and 10 years of practice management experience. She lives with her husband Russ, step-son Jake, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and various reptiles & chickens. In her spare time she works with local animal rescue groups and has started agility with her sheltie, Brogan.
Sumer Hyde / Client Care
Sumer Hyde was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. At young age she has always had a love for animals. She danced for 16 years competitively, and began casually riding horses shortly after. She was an active member of the FFA in high school, where she showed her Duroc pig at the Strawberry Festival. Upon graduating high school she attended Hillsborough Community College, where she recently graduated with her Associates of Arts. She has been accepted to the University of Florida Gulf Coast campus located in Plant City, where she will be receiving her Bachelors of Science in Agricultural and Life Sciences, with a focus in Agricultural Communications. She is planning on returning to HCC to receive her Associates of Science to be a Certified Veterinary Technician, as well. She is an avid fisher woman and boater. Spends her time outdoors, and enjoys being with her boyfriend, family, and friends. She has three female dogs: Peaches, Nilla, and LuLu, that join her on her boating adventures. She dreams of one day owning a piece of property with a variety of farm animals.
